Chief Internal Events Reported.

Rehearing of Ramzan Syed manslaughter case is briefly reported,

but considerable prominence is given to appeals to Chinese Ministry of

Foreign Affairs and the Chinese press by the mother of the deceased hawker for intervention by them on her behalf for "just punishment".

The Shum Chun border incident is not mentioned in local papers, but press cuttings from Singapore "Sin Chew Jit Poh" give restrained and reasonable accounts of the incident.

The "Wah Kiu Yat Po" reports fall in price of rice and firewood.

The National Times" of December 27 gives prominence to General Festing's apology.

Comments on Internal Events,

The "National Times" gives prominence to the the Ramzan Syed case and is hostile to Hong Kong judicial procedure and to the verdict.

The "Wah Kiu Yat Po" hopes for improvement in the Vegetable

Control.

The "Kung Sheung Daily News" protests against excessive medical treatment fees and shows how these are inflated by very high charges for medicines, innoculations and electrical treatment.
